Overhauls

Mechanical and battery-operated watches require a general overhaul of the movement at certain intervals (depending on the manufacturer).

Even if worn conscientiously, this service is required every 5-10 years.

During an overhaul, the watch is dismantled into its individual parts.

All components are checked, from the housing to the screws to the wheels, contacts, springs and other small parts, and replaced if necessary.

Mechanical and quartz watches are then removed from dirt and deposits in special cleaning baths.

During assembly, the newly used spare parts are then checked and coordinated with the other components.

During assembly, all bearing points are also provided with appropriate oils and greases.

The first step after cleaning is to assemble the balance. Once installed, the centricity of the hairspring is checked and adjusted if necessary.

As soon as the gear train with escapement is installed, the rate values are checked and the watch is regulated for the first time.

Once all complications and functions of the watch have been installed, the dial and hands can be set. The play of the hands in interaction with the dial must be taken into account. If nothing is touching and all the hands are parallel to each other, the movement can be inserted into the case.

During an overhaul, the case and strap are cleaned. The case can be reconditioned upon request.

During an overhaul, the seals are also checked and replaced so that watertightness can be guaranteed again.

It takes a few steps and hours to get a watch to run satisfactorily again and keep the time reliably for the next 10 years.

This can be accomplished with extensive knowledge, machines, special tools, sensitivity and experience.
